Mount Meru Game Lodge  is in the countryside of beautiful Usa River village, about 20 minutes outside of Arusha (between Kilimanjaro Airport and Arusha). The Lodge has beautiful grounds and a collection of animals to watch in their sanctuary. If the weather is clear, you may catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro from the terrace! Supper is often served outside by candlelight in the garden. The lodge does not have a pool. A friendly guide from the lodge will take you on free guided Usa River village or forest walk (reserve at the Reception desk).

Arumeru River Lodge is in a lovely setting in Usa River village, outside Arusha. The lodge is a few minutes drive through a coffee plantation from the main road, and the rooms are scattered through the property with lots of open space. Small Dik Dik (antelope) may graze by your room. The pool is appealing on a hot day. A guide can take you on a village or forest walk (fees apply, reserve at the Reception desk).

KIA Lodge  is part of the Moivaro group of lodges. It is located right near Kilimanjaro International Airport (approximately 5 minutes away). Rooms are comfortable though not luxury. The Lodge is a great place to spend a night when you have late arriving or especially if you have early morning departing flights, or need to spend one night somewhere at the end of a trip. They can provide free transport to the airport for your flight. The lodge location is very convenient for the airport and located part-way between Arusha and Moshi, with nothing nearby except the airport.

Tarangire National Park:

Tarangire River Camp :  This permanent tented lodge is our favorite place to stay in Tarangire (though it's actually just outside park borders). You may see or hear animals grazing outside your raised tent, or spot an elephant in the distance from the observation deck inside the open air lodge building. Sleeping quarters are in permanent tents on wooden platforms. Tents have beds, mosquito netting, and bathrooms with running water. Hot water is solar so it's best to shower in the afternoon when you are dusty from safari (in the morning the water may not be hot). The Maasai watchmen can take you on a morning nature walk to learn about their traditional uses of what they find in the environment around them (making rope from and cosmetics from local plants, lighting fires with elephant dung and a stick, etc.); or enjoy Maasai traditional singing and dancing around a campfire in the evening (fees apply for Maasai activities).  A pool has recently been added, as well as a spa.

Sopa Tarangire Lodge
Sopa Lodges are a group of large lodges in several of Tanzania's parks. While we usually prefer smaller lodges and camps, Sopa Lodges are well situated, have great views, and are more upscale than Wildlife Lodges group (and the price reflects that).

Karatu village: Karatu is located between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro park entrances so it works well as an overnight between them or on the way to/from Serengeti

Bougainvillea Lodge
Bougainvillea is a budget-friendly stopover between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater (and sometimes on the way back from safari as well). This is a friendly, comfortable and unpretentious lodge on the outskirts of Karatu village. The location means it doesn't have the views of lodges inside the parks, but the grounds are quite pretty, the staff is friendly, the food is excellent, and the value is outstanding. There is a pool although it may be cold. Meals are served family style in the main lodge building.  Chef Reggie is famous for his amazing food!

Country Lodge
Country Lodge is the sister of Bougainvillea Lodge, and located right next door. Country Lodge is a great choice for those who are on a budget. The service and food are overseen by the same management as Bougainvillea, the rooms are nice, but it's a bit simpler than Bougainvillea.  However since it's newer, sometimes the showers/plumbing are a bit more reliable than Bougainvillea which occasionally has a malfunction.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge
Wildlife Lodges are a group of large hotels/lodges in Tanzania. While usually we prefer smaller lodge and camps, Wildlife Lodges are great for those who like a hotel style environment and are on a budget. They have great locations and views. Meals are usually served buffet-style.
Ngorongoro Crater Rim:
See Bougainvillea Lodge and Country Lodge in Karatu above, which are great values near Ngorongoro. For those who want views of the Crater from their lodging, we suggest:

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge
Wildlife Lodges are a group of large hotels/lodges in Tanzania. While usually we prefer smaller lodge and camps, Wildlife Lodges are great for those who like a hotel style environment and are on a budget. They have great locations and views. Meals are usually served buffet-style.
